Summer is quickly approaching and renting a spot cooler during the summer can be an excellent way to stay cool without committing to a permanent cooling system. Or you might have a project coming up where you need temporary A/C. Here are some important things you need to know before renting a spot cooler:
1. Determine Your Cooling Needs
Size of the Space: Spot coolers come in various sizes, so you’ll need to assess the area you want to cool. Renting a cooler that's too small won’t effectively cool the space, while one that's too large may be unnecessarily costly.
Heat Load: If you're cooling a space with equipment that generates heat (like in a server room or a workshop), factor in the heat load when choosing a unit.
Cooling Capacity: Spot coolers are rated by their BTU (British Thermal Unit) output, so make sure the one you rent can handle the heat you're dealing with. Generally, a unit with higher BTU is needed for larger spaces.
2. Choose the Right Type of Spot Cooler
Portable Air Conditioners: Ideal for indoor spaces, these are most commonly rented for cooling offices, server rooms, or event spaces.
Evaporative Coolers: These are great for dry climates and work by adding moisture to the air to lower the temperature. They're energy-efficient but may not work as well in high-humidity areas.
3. Installation and Setup
Installation Requirements: Some spot coolers, particularly portable air conditioners, may require a window for venting hot air, typically in office buildings you would vent into a drop ceiling. Others might need to be placed near a power outlet, so ensure you have access to these features before renting. Spot coolers that are larger then 1.5 Ton need higher voltage. 2 Tons, 5 Tons & 7 Tons require a licensed electrician to install it. Also, a condensate pump might have to be hooked up as well depending on the size of the spot cooler.
Placement: Ensure that the spot cooler is placed in an area where it can circulate air efficiently. Obstructed airflow can reduce its performance.
4. Rental Duration
Short-Term vs. Long-Term: Spot coolers are ideal for temporary cooling needs, so consider how long you’ll need the unit. Most rental companies offer flexible rental periods, from daily to weekly, to monthly rates, so choose what best fits your needs.
Cost Considerations: Rental costs can vary based on the duration, the cooling capacity, and the brand of the unit. Factor in both the upfront cost and any additional fees for delivery, installation, and maintenance.
5. Maintenance and Upkeep
Filter Cleaning: Many spot coolers have air filters that need regular cleaning to maintain efficiency. Check with the rental company about any maintenance you’re responsible for. Also, a condensation bucket will need to be emptied on small units. Ask your provider on all instructions, if you rent from us, we placed a bar code that you can scan which pulls up the manual for easy access.
Monitoring Performance: Keep an eye on the temperature and humidity levels in the space to ensure the unit is working properly. If it starts underperforming, contact the rental company for assistance.
6. Energy Consumption
Electricity Costs: Spot coolers can consume a lot of energy, so be aware of how much it may add to your electricity bill. Some units are more energy-efficient than others, and you may want to ask about their energy usage before renting.
7. Delivery and Pickup
Transportation Logistics: Rental companies often deliver and pick up the spot cooler but check if there are any additional delivery charges or specific timeframes for this service. Again, if you choose us as your rental company the only fee will be the $150 delivery charge and the $150 pickup charge.
Set-Up Assistance: Some companies offer installation services, so ask if the unit comes with setup assistance to make the process easier.
8. Renting from a Reputable Company like US
Reputation and Reviews: Ensure the rental company is well-reviewed and reliable. A reputable company will provide clean, well-maintained units and offer customer support in case issues arise during the rental period.
Terms and Conditions: Review the rental agreement carefully, including any clauses about maintenance, damages, and insurance.
By knowing these key details, you'll be better prepared to rent a spot cooler that fits your needs, budget, and space requirements while keeping your summer cool and comfortable.
